Scriptura Customer: Leprino Foods
How Leprino Foods replaced their product specifications system with Scriptura XBOS
Leprino Foods is the world’s largest producer of premium-quality mozzarella cheese and U.S. exporter of whey products. Research and development is the key to their reputation for innovation in the cheese industry and they drive the pace of innovation in the whey industry. Founded in 1950 as a family business, Leprino Foods (Denver, CO) has grown into a company employing over 2600 employees, with 9 additional strategically located manufacturing plants. Leprino Foods has a revenue of $ 353,000,000.
Current solution was time-consuming and couldn't avoid discrepancy
Back a year ago, the users at Leprino Foods stored their product specifications in MS Word documents on the company's intranet. However, the same data resided on the iSeries, where most of the applications run. Therefore when some of the product specifications changed, both environments needed to be changed, which brought a lot of overhead and sometimes lead to discrepancy.
It goes without saying that the need to integrate the two systems was indispensable.
Scriptura XBOS : The solution
Leprino Foods searched the Internet for a product that would enable them to integrate the two systems. One of the prerequisites for the new product was that it would have to be able to get data from an iSeries database. The other prerequisites were related to the ease of use, the performance in terms of speed and to the ability to produce PDF output. Several products like IBM InfoPrint and Crystal Reports were investigated, but eventually Scriptura XBOS looked like the best solution, because it was the most user friendly product and it met all the requirements.
The implementation of Scriptura XBOS
The first stage of the project was to store the product specifications in a single place, in a structured way. The best way to do this was to enter the data in a database on the iSeries. In a second stage the templates were created with Scriptura XBOS. These templates had to have the same look and feel as the old MS Word documents, using the data stored on the iSeries. The last stage concerned the configuration of the Scriptura XBOS Server. When a user needs a product specification document, a job is initiated on the iSeries. This job submits a call to the Scriptura XBOS Server, which is installed on a Windows server. The PDF that is generated from the template and the data, is stored on the company's intranet.
The added value
The most important added value that Scriptura XBOS brought to Leprino Foods' environment is the time saving aspect. "Not to mention that it's a very good reporting tool that avoids discrepancy”, says Sajita Menon, leader of the Scriptura XBOS project at Leprino Foods. “User’s questions and issues were promptly treated and solved by the Inventive Designers' Support Department."
"Scriptura made our project delivery much quicker and more pleasing. Inventive Designers provided us with a great combination of value, service, and convenience.", concludes Sajita Menon.
