DTM for iSeries is a native System i (AS/400) Data/Text Merge solution. As a native solution, DTM uses the reliable and scalable AS/400 system for performing Data/Text Merge operations.

The DTM Engine of DTM for iSeries is the core component of the architecture. It contains all the runtime functions required to resolve, export and print documents.

Next to , DTM V3 also has a Scriptura output format which enables you to gain more than 15 output formats and output channels.

The resolve operation executes the merge function and generates a document where the instructions have been replaced by actual data. The export operation converts a document generated by the resolve operation into a specific type of output file. The print operation combines the resolve operation and the generation of a spooled file.

The DTM Engine can be used through a number of CL commands like Print DTM Document ( PRTDTMDOC ), Resolve DTM Document ( RSLDTMDOC ) and Export DTM Document ( EXPDTMDOC ).

The documents generated by a merge operation can be stored as standard Notes documents in any Notes database on a Domino server. This way the documents can be further integrated in Notes based groupware or work-flow applications.

The OV/400 Transition Feature of DTM for iSeries takes care of upgrading existing OV/400 RFT/FFT documents to DTM documents, and it provides replacements for the OV/400 CL commands typically used to integrate Data/Text Merge functions into existing AS/400 applications.

Any existing OV/400 document can be upgraded in one of the following ways :

• A document can be upgraded on-the-fly the first time it is used by DTM for iSeries. This kind of upgrade always happens whenever an OV/400 document is used through one of the OV/400-like CL commands and there is not yet a DTM version of this document.
• A batch upgrade can be performed on all the documents in a specific folder by running the Import RFT Document ( IMPRFTDOC ) or Import FFT Document ( IMPFFTDOC ) command.

Additionally, a number of OV/400-like CL commands are available to limit the number of changes required to integrate DTM for iSeries into existing OV/400 based applications. These OV/400-like CL commands include Print Document ( PRTDOC ), Merge Document ( MRGDOC ), Edit Document ( EDTDOC ) and so on. The parameters of these commands are similar to the parameters of the OV/400 CL commands.
